Eastern MedTech is Growing with New Product Lines by Automating Their Intake Process.

The Challenge

For Eastern MedTech, a DME provider specializing in sleep apnea, home ventilation, and diabetic care, manually processing referrals and clinically qualifying orders had become an expense that seemed like the proverbial “cost of doing business”. 

Despite years of steady growth, CEO Peter Falkson recognized a stark reality: "I don't know how you can scale today and provide a clean claim to the insurance company if you don't do everything perfectly from the beginning." 

This growth relied on offshore teams and the use of legacy systems, but costly inefficiencies and accuracy issues had cast a shadow on their workflows and their ability to keep growing. "Things routinely fell through the cracks,” explained Falkson. With demands from multiple stakeholders—patients, providers, and payors—the inability to keep up and the need for a predictable, cost-effective solution became clear.

Eastern MedTech, never an organization to shy away from technology adoption, was ready to embrace a new reality: automation and machine learning working hand-in-hand to do everything the right way from the start.

With Tennr, Eastern MedTech doubled its document-processing capacity—from around 200 documents per month at the end of 2024 to over 4000 documents per month today—without increasing headcount. 

Eastern MedTech quickly followed on the scalability of Tennr to grow their CGM service line, efficiently handling thousands of monthly leads. The CGM product launch effectively doubled the inbound document volume over just 2 months. 

"Our seven offshore staff now handle four times their previous workload, and we still have extra capacity. We can keep growing." 

Falkson points out that Tennr has not only improved their efficiency but changed their staffing approach by enabling Eastern MedTech to shift higher-paid, high-quality team members to oversight and patient-facing roles, significantly enhancing both employee satisfaction and patient care.

"We would rather invest our time on quality people because that makes us more efficient. Rather than transactional data entry, our team can oversee and QC data entry that’s already done by machine learning. It makes perfect sense."

Keeping ties with referring providers
Turning around referral orders quicker meant that Eastern Medtech had to also scale its provider-to-provider communications and extend its investment in automation to outreach. One of the most significant impacts of Tennr was being able to secure missing patient information and confirm that referred patients are on track to receive their services. On average, Tennr automates over 400 referring provider interactions per month. 

"We went from a reactive workflow to automated proactive provider engagement."

What's Next

Eastern MedTech is looking forward to the future with Tennr. Peter Falkson and the Eastern MedTech team are on their way to a complete, end-to-end workflow under Tennr that connects referral management and triaging, prior authorization, benefits verification, and provider-to-provider interactions.

"Our goal is to do something no one else in the industry has done at scale—achieve near-perfect claims from intake to submission," Falkson explained. "We are actively exploring sophisticated data-driven approaches to patient care, strategies that our competitors simply aren’t considering yet, because we’re not stuck spending our time clearing a backlog. We can think ahead."

And for Falkson, it’s all about having the right people on your side.

“You guys are really smart, Tennr as a whole, everybody we’ve interacted with — we certainly haven't seen anybody doing what you're doing with the quality of the people of your team.”
