Home Medix Takes Referrals 75% Faster Than Before with 4X the Volume

The Challenge

Business was booming.”

Typically, these are the words every CEO hopes to say when describing their healthcare practice. But this rapid growth drove Josh Arabian and the team at Home Medix into a cloud of operational headaches. A good problem to have, but a problem nonetheless.

As Home Medix saw their monthly DME sales jump nearly 4x, the inefficiencies in their document processing at scale started to take center stage as keeping up with the work became increasingly difficult. Home Medix was staring a resource crisis directly in the eyes, needing to balance rapid growth with the escalating burden of manual processing of referrals and, most importantly, servicing as many patients as they could without leaving them waiting weeks for their equipment.

Home Medix was operating with approximately 5 full-time employees dedicated solely to handling fax wrangling and referral intake: grabbing messy, disjointed referral packets, grouping documents related to specific patients together, and updating or creating new sales orders — a process that took at best 20-30 minutes per complete Niko Health intake entry.

As CEO, Josh Arabian, puts it -

“The administrative work slowed us down a lot. I would have had to hire 3 to 4 more people to keep up with the volumes we were doing.”

Life with Tennr

With Tennr and an automation-first approach, Home Medix flipped the script and tackled its resourcing issues head-on.

The contrast is striking: over a 6-month period, what once required 5 FTEs now runs smoothly with just 2 off-site users handling all fax wrangling and referral intake tasks.

Each intake now takes less than 5 minutes—down from the previous 20 minutes—saving ~777 hours or 32 days of the team working full-time. Homemedix is just getting started with Tennr, now quadrupling their processing with the platform and taking on more and more of their pre-placement order processing in the second half of 2024.

“Instead of spending a quarter of an hour on each entry, we’re now in and out in less than 5 minutes,” Josh notes, emphasizing the dramatic shift in efficiency. Beyond the numbers, Tennr has liberated the on-site team to focus on what Home Medix has become known for: elite patient engagement and care, spending more time directly with patients and case managers. They’re also engaged more in building trust with referring providers and investing in robust business development strategies to keep up their growth.

“If I walked in tomorrow and told the team we couldn’t use Tennr anymore, I think they’d throw a fit. They love it, it makes their lives so much easier.”

What's Next

When we asked Josh and his team about the future of Home Medix, they were optimistic about the opportunities and the newly freed time and resources. Josh envisions an even more dynamic approach to their operations:

“If we can continue to use analytics through Tennr and highlight how quickly different parts of our process are running, that would speed things up a lot for us.”

Home Medix plans to integrate Tennr into additional workflows for eligibility and benefits management. For them, Tennr isn’t just a tool — it’s the engine powering the next phase of growth and acceleration into a future where every minute saved is a minute invested in superior patient and provider engagement.
